గతంలో ఉండినాను, ఉండింది, ఉండినాడు అని అర్థంలో was ఉపయోగిస్తారు.

గతంలో ఉండింది, ఉండినాడు, ఉండినాను అంటే ఇప్పుడు లేదు అని అర్థం.

గతం అంటే ఏమిటి? ఈరోజు ఐదు నిమిషాల క్రితం జరిగిన దానిని కూడా గతం గానే చెప్పవచ్చు. జరిగిపోయిన దానిని గతం అంటారు

సమయం సాయంత్రం ఐదు గంటలు అయి వుండినది , ఆ రోజు సోమవారం, ఐదు కిలోమీటర్ల దూరం వుండినది , ఇది చాలా కష్టంగా వుండినది . ఈ విధంగా తెలుగులో చెప్పాల్సి వచ్చినప్పుడు. ఇటువంటి వాక్యాలలో సబ్జెక్టు ఉండదు. కానీ ఇంగ్లీషులో తప్పనిసరిగా గ్రామర్ రూల్ ప్రకారం. ప్రతి సెంటెన్స్ లో కూడా సబ్జెక్ట్ ని ఉపయోగించాలి. సబ్జెక్టు లేని ఇటువంటి వాక్యాలు చెప్పాల్సి వచ్చినప్పుడు it ని డమ్మీ subject గా ఉపయోగిస్తారు. కాబట్టి ఇటువంటి వాక్యాలలో It కి అర్థం ఉండదు. అవసరం మాత్రమే ఉంటుంది
