Are కి Past రూపమే Were 

We, You, They  సబ్జెక్టులకు మాత్రమే  పాస్ట్ టెన్స్పాస్ట్ లో  were  ఉపయోగిస్తారు

గతంలో  ఉండినారు , ఉండినాము  అనే  అర్థంలో  were   ఉపయోగిస్తారు. 

Were  ఏఏ  సందర్భాల్లో ఉపయోగిస్తారో తెలుసుకుందాం

1.Past Continuous Tense: 

గతంలో ఒక నిర్దిష్టమైన సమయంలో కంటిన్యూగా జరుగుతూ  ఉండిన పనిని గురించి చెప్పడానికి ఫాస్ట్ కంటిన్యూస్ టెన్స్ ఉపయోగిస్తారు.

1. We were studying at night. మేము రాత్రి చదువుకుంటూ  ఉండినాము.
We were not studying at night. మేము రాత్రి చదువుకుంటూ  ఉండలేదు.
Were we studying at night? మేము రాత్రి చదువుకుంటూ  ఉండినామా ?
Were we not studying at night? మేము రాత్రి చదువుకుంటూ  ఉండలేదా.?
   
2. You were watching TV then. 2. మీరు అప్పుడు టీవీ చూస్తూ ఉండినారు.
You were not watching TV then. మీరు అప్పుడు టీవీ చూస్తూ ఉండ లేదు.

2. Profession: గతంలో సబ్జెక్ట్ యొక్క వృత్తిని గురించి తెలియజేయడానికి were ఉపయోగిస్తారు

 

1. We were teachers then. 1. మేము అప్పుడు ఉపాధ్యాయులుగా ఉండినాము.
We were not teachers then. మేము అప్పుడు ఉపాధ్యాయులుగా ఉండలేదు

3 . Location: గతంలో సబ్జెక్ట్ యొక్క ప్రదేశం  గురించి తెలియజేయడానికి were ఉపయోగిస్తారు

We were not at home then. మేము అప్పుడు ఇంట్లో  ఉండలేదు.

4. Age : గతంలో సబ్జెక్ట్ యొక్క వయస్సు  గురించి తెలియజేయడానికి were ఉపయోగిస్తారు.

We were not teenagers then. మేము అప్పుడు యుక్తవయస్కులం కాదు.

5. Time Expressions : గతంలో సబ్జెక్ట్ యొక్క సమయ స్థితి  గురించి తెలియజేయడానికి were ఉపయోగిస్తారు. 

1. We were late yesterday. 1. మేము నిన్న ఆలస్యంగా వచ్చాము.(మేము నిన్న ఆలస్యంగా ఉండినాము )
We were not late yesterday. మేము నిన్న ఆలస్యంగా రాలేదు.
Were we late yesterday? మేము నిన్న ఆలస్యంగా వచ్చామా?
Were we not late yesterday? మేము నిన్న ఆలస్యంగా రాలేదా?
   
2. You were early that day. 2. మీరు ఆ రోజు త్వరగా వచ్చారు. (మీరు ఆరోజు త్వరగా ఉండినారు)
You were not early that day. మీరు ఆ రోజు త్వరగా రాలేదు.
Were you early that day? మీరు ఆ రోజు త్వరగా వచ్చారా ?
Were you not early that day? మీరు ఆ రోజు త్వరగా రాలేదా?
   
3. They were on time then. 3. వారు అప్పుడు సమయానికి వచ్చారు.(వారు అప్పుడు సమయానికి ఉండినారు)
They were not on time then. వారు అప్పుడు సమయానికి రాలేదు.
Were they on time then? అప్పుడు వారు సమయానికి వచ్చారా?
Were they not on time then? అప్పుడు వారు సమయానికి రాలేదా?
   
4. We were busy last night. 4. మేము నిన్న రాత్రి బిజీగా ఉండినాము.

5. You were free yesterday evening. 5. మీరు నిన్న సాయంత్రం ఖాళీగా ఉండినారు
You were not free yesterday evening. మీరు నిన్న సాయంత్రం ఖాళీగా  ఉండలేదు.
Were you free yesterday evening? మీరు నిన్న సాయంత్రం ఖాళీగా ఉండినారా ?

6. They were absent yesterday. 6. వారు నిన్న గైర్హాజరు అయ్యారు.

6. Emotions  : గతంలో సబ్జెక్ట్ యొక్క బావాల గురించి తెలియజేయడానికి were ఉపయోగిస్తారు. (were + adjective)

 

1. We were happy then. 1. మేము అప్పుడు సంతోషంగా ఉండినాము
We were not happy then. మేము అప్పుడు సంతోషంగా  ఉండలేదు.
Were we happy then? మేము అప్పుడు సంతోషంగా ఉండినామా ?
Were we not happy then? మేము అప్పుడు సంతోషంగా ఉండ లేదా?
   
2. You were sad that day. 2. ఆ రోజు మీరు విచారంగా ఉండినారు.
You were not sad that day. ఆ రోజు మీరు విచారంగా ఉండలేదు..
Were you sad that day? ఆ రోజు మీరు విచారంగా ఉండినారా .?

9. They were careless earlier. 9. వారు ఇంతకు ముందు నిర్లక్ష్యంగా ఉండినారు.
They were not careless earlier. వారు ఇంతకు ముందు నిర్లక్ష్యంగా ఉండలేదు.
Were they careless earlier? వారు ఇంతకు ముందు నిర్లక్ష్యంగా ఉండినారా?

7. State;  were + verb3 ఉపయోగించి గతంలో సబ్జెక్టు యొక్క స్థితిని తెలియజేయడం

Were  + verb3 ఈ రూపంలో ఉన్న వాక్యాలను రెండు అర్థాలతో ఉపయోగిస్తారు.1. Passive voice రూపం 2. గతంలో సబ్జెక్ట్ యొక్క స్థితిని (state) తెలియజేయడానికి. సందర్భాన్ని బట్టి మనమే దాని అర్ధాన్ని తెలుసుకోవాలి.

Example: they  were tired yesterday

Passive: వారిని  నిన్న  అలసిపోయేటట్లు చేశారు

State : వారు  అలిసిపోయి ఉండినారు. 

Tire – Tired – Tired- Tiring

tired= అలసిపోయినారు  (past participle)

were  = ఉండినారు 

They were  tired yesterday = వారు  నిన్న అలసిపోయి ఉండినారు .

వారు  నిన్న అలసిపోయి ఉండినారు.

సాధారణంగా adjective అనేది సబ్జెక్టు యొక్క గుణాన్ని తెలియజేస్తుంది కానీ కొన్ని సందర్భాలలో was + verb3 ఉపయోగించి సబ్జెక్ట్ యొక్క గుణాన్ని తెలియజేయడానికి ఉపయోగిస్తారు. ఇక్కడ verb3 అనేది adjective గా  పనిచేస్తుంది.

1. We were tired after the journey. 1. ప్రయాణం తర్వాత మేము అలసిపోయి ఉండినాము.
We were not tired after the journey. ప్రయాణం తర్వాత మేము అలసిపోయి ఉండలేదు..
Were we tired after the journey? ప్రయాణం తర్వాత మేము అలసిపోయి ఉండినామా ?
Were we not tired after the journey? ప్రయాణం తర్వాత మేము అలసిపోయి ఉండ లేదా ?
   
2. You were shocked by the news. 2. మీరు వార్తలను చూసి ఆశ్చర్యపోయి ఉండినారు
You were not shocked by the news. మీరు వార్తలను చూసి ఆశ్చర్యపోయి ఉండలేదు
Were you shocked by the news? మీరు వార్తలను చూసి ఆశ్చర్యపోయి ఉండినారా ?
Were you not shocked by the news? మీరు వార్తలను చూసి ఆశ్చర్యపోయి ఉండ లేదా?
